Walk Against the Wind

Anytime you mention Satan, you’re going to get a strong reaction, one way or another. I posted a tweet last month and got both trash talk and a lot of “likes” on my Facebook wall.

What did I write? “If Satan is not opposing you, maybe it is because he is walking with you…”

What’s so shocking about that? Look at it this way. If you’re choosing to live your daily life in a way that is not according to God’s perfect will — in other words, if you’re doing evil — that’s what Satan wants to happen. He’s going to walk alongside you and do everything he can to make sinning easy for you!

Choosing instead to resist sin is the harder road. I’d be willing to bet that most of us just give up. Jesus didn’t. Jesus is the only Man who never gave in to sin. So of course he knows how hard it is. Perhaps that’s why he said, “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew 26:41).

You probably don’t even know how weak your flesh is. As C.S. Lewis said, no person knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good.

You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives in to temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later. That is why bad people, in one sense, know very little about badness. They have lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it … (From Mere Christianity)

Walk against the wind. Don’t give in. In fact, the writer of the New Testament book of Hebrews set the bar for us — and it’s as high as the cross beam Jesus was crucified on. The author wrote, “You have not yet resisted to bloodshed.”

That may not sound very civilized, but neither is hell. Satan is real and he’s out to get you. Watch your back.

    Thank you so much for this blog! Small reminders like this, help me through my day. Keeping in mind how satan would love to see us fall into his trap. But walking with Jesus, I remain strong. Thank you again. Thank you Miles and Rock Church. You are awesome!

    I served at the Rock for about 8 years in the security ministry, I had the opportunity to attend two Ironman courses and I am so thankful that our Lord blessed me with those gifts, right now I am being pounded by satan, but our precious Lord never lets me down, I am going thru spiritial warfare like most people wouldn’t believe. Thank You Lord for the Rock and all my brothers and sisters in JesusChrist.

    I feel that I am being tempted everyday to revert back to the sinful being i was before. But that life is past me now and i know that i don’t want that pain again. Thank you Miles for this blog and the verse from Matthews was perfect!

    Thank you Pastor Miles. I had the privilege of hearing you speak at the One Conference in Miami and I was supremely blessed. I posted your four things we need to do on my Facebook wall and promoted your book which I’m reading now. Also posted the link to the “do something” website. Came online to get the encouragement you offered at the end of the intro and I am definitely encouraged. I pray that God will continue to grant you wisdom and prosper you far beyond any need.

    The shocking part is realizing the truth in denial, in anger, in vengeance, in vain, in pain…surrendered.
    The wicked Satan is indeed walking along side me. The Lord knows my struggling soul in prayers, but He just stares.
    How can this be? How can I not be shock of how opposing my soul trying to be and Satan is still along side me?

    Oh God, 14003 miles across the world – your faithful disciple screamed out and presented your spoken WORD – “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak”.

    Great article Pastor Miles!
    I walked with satan before I was saved. I listened and believed all the lies… drinking, drugs, jail and everything in between. The pain and suffering was too much, I just wanted to die. Jesus Christ changed my heart & my mind. I’ll never turn back to those wicked ways. I love Jesus sooo much for everything He’s done for me and my family. Paise the Lord!!!
